The Snowy River Campus is the second of the Victorian State Department of Education’s year nine residential leadership programs, known as the School for Student Leadership. Based upon the successful Alpine School model, more than $3.0m was allocated in to construct the 45 student, state of the art centre on the Marlo Aerodrome site in Far East Gippsland, near Marlo. The architects for the site at Marlo were chosen by a Ministerial panel auspiced by the Australian Institute of Architects. There were 40 proposals for the architecture nominated in a National Competition.

Marlo was chosen among many reasons, including its location on the coast which represents another of the wonderfully diverse environs in the Victorian landscape. Marlo was selected from a field of over 50 locations nominated by rural shires across Victoria. The school occupies a beautiful location of approximately 15 hectares on the 400ha Marlo airfield reserve. The site is safe and secluded and has views of the distant Errinnundra plateau. The surrounding environment caters for a range of unique outdoor activities to take place, including- surfing at Cape Conran, canoeing in the Snowy River Estuary System, caving at Buchan Caves, mountain biking in the Marlo Plains and hiking throughout the Cape Conran Coastal Park. The rich indigenous history of the local area is a key learning focus, as is our regular interaction with local community groups and schools.
