Reflections on Rest Day - Indigo & Brandyn Print E-mail

REST DAY by Indigo

Despite being confined to campus, we still had a fun-filled day.
Passports and CLPs were worked on and the Passport art is starting to look good. Food was prepared for tomorrow’s Mexican night and birthday cakes were made. Yum! : )
Today brought lots of rain and some big thunderstorms. We all enjoyed jumping in puddles and slipping down the mini rivers, or at least watching.
Today was our second-last Rest Day and we sure made it count. 14 days to go, but we all wish it would never end.

REST DAY by Brandyn

Today was a very wet and rainy day. We were kept inside most of the day until Jake and Ryan suggested the idea to go outside. I know I was out there straight away and most other people were to. We played in puddles and slid down miniature rivers. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Most people went feral once they had their first slide until afternoon tea was announced and it was cake time!
We made a fair mess inside but we had to fix it if we wanted to eat cake. Before all of this fun most of us were doing Passport work or writing emails.
We were then watching a movie and eating beautiful lunches which consisted of bacon sandwiches. It was a fun day and we all unleashed our inner-child again!

Relaxation Print E-mail

Yesterday 1A had a relaxation class with Miss Patterson. To do this class, we went into the meeting room after lunch. We all had a yoga mat, a bolster, a blanket and two foam blocks.

The first thing we did was learn how to meditate in a moment. We had to shut our eyes for one minute and think about our breathing. After the moment meditation we all felt ready for class.

The next thing we did was yoga poses. While we did these yoga poses we had relaxing music in the background to help us meditate. We did this for around an hour.

Next we went into deep relaxation. Miss Patterson was talking while playing relaxing music while we were lying completely still. We had eye masks on and we were lying down on our yoga mats with our blankets covering us. We did this deep meditation for half an hour all though it only seemed like five minutes. A few people fell asleep as it was extremely relaxing. All in all it was very disappointing for the class to end.

Core 2 - Minute to Win It Print E-mail
Minute to Win It

Last night for evening class we had ‘Minute to Win It’ and Noel and I ran it.

We had 5 teams in total. ‘Minute to Win It’ is basically using household items and playing minor games within a minute. The one that I enjoyed the most was the Ping Pong ball into a bucket. Each contestant has a bucket taped onto a helmet and they must bounce the ball off the table into the bucket without the ball bouncing out. It was heaps of fun running the class. It built my confidence by having to speak up. It felt great to run something.

Expo 2 by Claudia and Kirra Print E-mail

Today 1A got back from Expo 2. We all had a great time in our canoes and walking up mountains.

On Monday we left the campus and started our journey. It rained for the whole day but we continued on in good spirits. After walking to Marlo and then canoeing across the Estuary we arrived at our first camp site. We cooked our dinner and set up our tents in the rain.

On the second day we canoed for the whole day. Today the weather was a bit better and only rained ¾ of the day. We all had fun singing and canoeing in the rain. Some of us were even pro gondoliers. We set up camp at a farm under the shed away from the rain. We had a fire that night and were lucky enough to even get marshmallows…YUM!!!

On our last day we woke up at 4:30am and were in our canoes by 6:30am. The water was calm and beautiful. After canoeing 3km we began our hike up the two mountains. It was challenging at times but it was worth it in the end. It was nice to come across 1B in our travels. The view at the top of the mountain was spectacular!!

Overall it was a fantastic expo and taught us that we can live in the rain!

Core 2 Caving by Indy Print E-mail
Indy's Caving Blog

We set off in the fresh breeze on a Monday morning at 8.00 am, all in our suits, both blue and orange.

We decided to split up in two groups, one group would go to the Royal Cave first and the other would go to the Wild cave. Once we reached the Wild cave we split into two groups. Each group had two girls and about four boys. We were fortunate enough to have two guys help us crawl through some of the roughest, bumpiest and smallest of holes and tunnels. Their names were Phil and Dave. After we had met them we got our helmets and fiddled around for a while to get them to fit our heads properly, and they already had head torches on them which was a big bonus. When we first entered the cave we slipped all the way down, like a kid falls down in a slide. We all did it as a team and successfully made it out, even though we were all totally covered in dirt.

After we arrived back to the Park where the Royal Cave was, the other group had already made us a beautiful lunch of yummy chicken burgers. After we ate our lunch and packed everything up so we could leave it as we found it, we decided to head up to the Royal Cave as the other group left for the Wild Cave. The Royal Cave had a few stairs and a little light breeze but it was huge and some of the parts of the cave were so gorgeous . We also imagined things out of some of the shapes that the crystals made. Some were big and some were small. The small ones were at least 100 years old and it was so amazing to see how old something so small could be.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". Our fourth and newest campus, currently known as the Don Valley Campus is located at Don Valley, Yarra Ranges.

Our school community acknowledges the Gunaikurnai and Monero-Ngarigo people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school campus is built. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their Elders past and present, and especially whose children attend our school.
