Secret Lunch Picnic Twist

Today I was many things. Crazy, sad, happy, scared, student leader, listener, recipient and a giver as well. I spent a horrible night (certainly not sleeping) without Caitlin, thinking and praying about my role as Student Leader today. I was appreciative I was doing it with Gemma, a girl in my expo group as well as a great friend. I woke up earlier (meaning got out of bed) to have a shower before breakfast. I wanted to “dress up” for the occasion.

The morning meeting went well. This meeting, it was Snowy's turn to host the video conference link up. I was nervous and self-conscious seeing myself on screen as well as having to talk to other students I didn’t know. I acted to get myself happy like Debbie said, and it worked. Miss Moore helped us write down the ideas and figures for the student leader log book. Morning headcount went super. Gemma and I, to say how the girls were going in the wing sang “WE ARE FAMILY, I GOT ALL MY SISTERS AND ME!!” for the boys wing we sang “WHO LET THE DOGS OUT??” The vibe we listed was “pooped” as an interesting fact about Rainbow. I said we all have pet leprechauns and secret stashes of gold.

Passport went really well, I finished my draft of my number 6 criteria and started number 7. So I still have 3 more criteria’s to do before Saturday. I checked on how everyone did as to work on my person student leader goal. Gemma and I also played Leadership heads at the start of class. I had a really good time.

For lunch, Gemma and I decided to try a picnic twist. We didn’t know how to organise it but as we asked help and ideas seemed to come out of everywhere. We set table cloths and laid out baskets, positioned wattle and stumps and set out the table. It looked like a proper picnic. We made a toast, to a good picnic and to the community. It was the highlight of my day. Everyone there were people I loved and we were having a great time. Happiness was through the roof and I was ready for anything.

Yoga, well words can’t start to describe the experience both during and afterwards. We drove out with Miss Beck to the aerodrome and there we got out mats and chucked our socks off. I thought the first art of the Yoga, the positions were really cool. Some took heaps of effort to do right and some I couldn’t even do it. When I did manage to do some I felt really proud. The second part of class was relaxation. IT WAS MAGICAL. I have never tried anything like that before and the affect it had on me was tremendous. I felt like I was sleeping yet I was conscious. I wasn’t thinking or dreaming, asleep or awake. I wasn’t anything but there. The experience will stay with me forever.

Yesterday went great for me. Our classes were passports and yoga. Passports for me went really well. I got a lot of work done that needed to be caught up on and now I have completed 5 criteria’s and a half. I thought my role and Phoebe’s role’s went really well yesterday as student leaders as well. We set up a massive lunch for the whole of SRC. We made a long table in the middle of the room and decorated it with table cloth, candles, flowers, proper cutlery and water jugs. We were both really proud of it and were so happy about it we made a toast to everyone at SRC about how great the cook, teachers and students are.

In the afternoon we had Yoga. Well let’s just say that it was interesting. We got to the aero dome and set up for an hour and a half of yoga. First we started off with some easy poses and got warmed up then we did all kinds of crazy things that made every boy in the room complain. I must admit it was quite funny at first but then the last 25 minutes everyone calmed down for relaxation. We had to get comfortable on our mats and close our eyes and leave our body stillness. It was tricky at first because I wanted to open my eyes but after a while it was okay. I really enjoyed it and will do it again in the future.

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. The Alpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. After consultation with the local aboriginal community, this name represents both the indigenous name of the local area and an interpretation of the statement "belonging to this place". Our fourth and newest campus, currently known as the Don Valley Campus is located at Don Valley, Yarra Ranges.

Our school community acknowledges the Gunaikurnai and Monero-Ngarigo people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school campus is built. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their Elders past and present, and especially whose children attend our school.
