Bike Intro and Bridge Building Print
Term 4 2011 - Bridge Building

1A started our first activity day with bridge building. Our group got up at 6:30am as usual and made our lunches at 8:00am. We then packed our day packs with all our goretex (waterproof clothing) and lunches. We left in four layers of clothing complete in thermals, long pants and long sleeve top and a jumper or two. We hopped in the van looking like we were about to go on an expedition to the Arctic. We got to our bridge building site next to the angling club and unpack the trailer with wood and other goodies.

After finishing that we headed out and discussed our team and personal goals. With that finished it was time to climb into our goretex because it was pouring down with rain with 20km odd winds.

After leaving the shelter of behind the club we headed out into the open to start our adventures. Mr. Morton started with teaching us a few knots such as the timber hitch. We then started building like a group of ants. We made four tripod looking structures with wooden beams around the sides to stand on. We then placed one after another without touching the water as if we were we would be out of action for five minutes.

Our team was successful but it took nearly two hours to place all of them in place to get to the canoe that Mr. Morton had placed out with a whole bunch of treats in it that we had to get. All was in place when he put the canoe out there but he somehow managed to make the canoe sink as water started to flood in from the sides. The group was laughing their heads off. After the fun and games and the four- five hours it took us we packed up feeling even more like a team. It was a great day.

Bike intro was on the fourth day. Mr Morton and Miss Moore gave us a quick safety check class before showing and teaching us the basics on riding a bike. Once that was finished we headed out onto the skills track and played some skill games on the basketball court. It was a great way to finish a great day.
